our roots — How it all started

Hey there!

We’re Mona and Lamine, two plant lovers from Hackney Wick. When the UK went into its first lockdown, we discovered the positive impact of being surrounded by plants. Inspired by this, we decided to mix our passions for plants, DIY, and art, and Repot was born.

We started small, taking cuttings from our own plants and propagating them. Each pot, designed and painted by us, was delivered on foot or by bike around Hackney Wick, where it all started. Our initial creations sold out quickly, motivating us to continue our journey.

We then moved into a small artist's studio and had the opportunity to sell our painted pots at a local bakery called Doh. Our studio quickly evolved into a mini-store where people could buy plants and place custom orders for pots.

Since May 2020, we’ve had the chance to be part of various pop-up stores on Portobello Road and Oxford Street, participated in local markets like Barge East and Hackney Wick Underground, and featured in exhibitions such as Open House Hackney.

In the summer 2021, we got to transform The Lord Napier, Hackney Wick’s iconic pub, with 115 plants and hand-painted pots. We’ve also collaborated with many wonderful projects across London, including The Colour Factory, Channel 4’s The Big Breakfast, Jumbi Peckham, several offices in Central London, The Star by Liverpool Street, The Star by Hackney Downs, Rule Zero, King Rory’s Groom Room and more.

In March 2023, we achieved a dream by opening our concept store in the heart of Hackney Wick. It’s a place where plants and art thrive together, providing a creative and green oasis for locals to find inspiration and bring some greenery into their own spaces.
